It is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Norway and is licensed to receive and recover 300,000 tons of material per year from the entire Oslo region. However, the technical capacity is much higher, and the facility is scalable up to one million tons per year.

The facility is supplied by the Northern Irish company Tyrone and is expected to deliver significant environmental benefits in the years to come.

– Must comply with strict emission requirements

Mivanor is responsible for the treatment of process water flowing through the facility.
The treatment plant consists of two MivaMag-40™ units in parallel operation, with a combined capacity of 80,000 liters of water per hour, which exceeds Mivanor’s standard solution.

In addition, a Moving Bed Filter has been installed as a secondary treatment stage with a biological process and continuous washing. This provides further reduction of harmful parameters such as suspended solids, BTEX, PAH-16, and TOC.

– This is a robust and flexible solution that must comply with strict emission requirements, says Technical Manager Robert Tarasz, adding:

– The collaboration with FRANO has been impeccable, and we are pleased to be part of a project that has such important significance for the Oslo region.

The solution will ensure a high and stable level

By treating and reusing the process water internally in the soil washing process, the facility at Bånkall effectively becomes a fully circular system. It minimizes the need for fresh water input and reduces both emissions and transport burden.

The treatment solution is designed to ensure that the water quality remains at a high and stable level in the cycle without affecting the efficiency of the washing process.

– For us, it has been crucial to implement a treatment system that handles large volumes of water while ensuring good quality. Mivanor has demonstrated strong technical expertise and understanding of the practical needs in a facility like ours, says FRANO CEO Kari Røseth.

Wants to supply the market with recycled stone

Through its new soil washing facility at Bånkall in Oslo, FRANO provides a comprehensive, circular solution for surplus materials from construction projects in the region.

The facility washes and sorts both clean and contaminated materials, making it possible to convert up to 80% of surplus materials into high-quality recycled aggregates and gravel. These will be ready for reuse in road and construction projects, drainage, farmyards, and other structures.
