In this facility, Mivanor plays a key role in ensuring that the water used in the process is effectively treated and reused.
The plant is supplied by the turnkey provider Nordic Bulk, making this our third collaborative project.
– We see this as an absolutely necessary investment if we are to succeed in the green transition. To reach the goal of a fully circular society by 2050, we must become much better at reusing surplus masses locally, Hans Rune Valle says, Head of Business Development at NGIR, and continues:
– This is both an important environmental measure and an economically sound step over time.
A complete solution for a more circular waste sector
Surplus soil and rock from construction sites have traditionally been viewed as a waste problem. Now, this is being turned into a resource opportunity. With soil washing, clean fractions such as sand, gravel, and stone can be separated and reused – while contaminated materials are handled in accordance with regulations.
The recipe for success in the facility delivered by Nordic Bulk lies in the interaction between washing and water treatment. Nordic Bulk provides the soil-washing system, while we at Mivanor supply the water treatment system that allows the wash water to be used again and again in a closed loop. This offers both environmental benefits and economic advantages.
– After several soil-washing projects, we find that our treatment system MivaMag™ delivers excellent results in cleaning process water in soil-washing facilities, Robert Tarasz says, Head of Technology at Mivanor.

How the water treatment system works
The washing process requires large amounts of water. To avoid wasting resources, we install a customized water treatment plant that cleans the process water before it is returned to the system.
This helps to:
- Reduce water consumption dramatically
- Minimize discharges of particles and heavy metals
- Provide high operational stability and low operating costs
Long-term collaboration with Nordic Bulk
This is the third project we have carried out together with Nordic Bulk. Their expertise in material handling and mechanical solutions, combined with our specialization in industrial water treatment, provides customers with a reliable, complete solution.
– We know each other well and work efficiently as a team. This makes it easier to adapt the facility to the customer’s needs and to ensure that both water quality and recycling rates are as high as possible, says Tor Erik Moan, CEO of Mivanor.
Nordic Bulk is also pleased with the partnership:
– After three successful projects together, we can say that we are very satisfied with the close cooperation we have had with Mivanor. Together we have developed a complete solution that works well for our customers, both on paper and in practice, Steen Sanddahl says, Project Manager at Nordic Bulk.
Contributing to the green transition
Soil washing and recycling of surplus masses have demonstrated significant economic and environmental benefits:
- Cost savings of up to NOK 280 per ton due to reduced need for landfilling
- Up to 80% recovery rate in washing facilities
By integrating water treatment into the washing process, we support both the customer’s sustainability goals and society’s overall ambition for a more circular economy. Less waste going to landfill means lower environmental impact and greater local resource utilization.
