Water Treatment Helps Protect Plant and Animal Life

Every year, large amounts of environmentally harmful substances are released into nature – heavy metals, nutrients, and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that threaten plant and animal life. These pollutants can accumulate in the ecosystem, disrupt food chains, and in the worst case, lead to the extinction of species.
Industrial processes can result in the release of these substances into nature through water. For over ten years, Mivanor has been working to find solutions that help businesses treat water and reduce environmental impact.
Why is Water Treatment Crucial for Plant and Animal Life?
When heavy metals such as mercury, lead, and cadmium are released into nature, they can accumulate in the food chain and cause serious harm.
Predators – such as eagles, wolves, and bears – are particularly vulnerable, but humans can also face health problems such as cancer, kidney damage, and developmental disorders.
Nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus can lead to eutrophication, where the water becomes over-fertilized, and oxygen levels drop drastically. This can lead to the extinction of fish and algae, which can suffocate lakes and marine areas, and degrade drinking water sources.
Additionally, there are the so-called "forever chemicals" – persistent organic pollutants (POPs) – that do not break down in nature. These can accumulate in animal populations and lead to hormonal disturbances and genetic damage. In recent times, we have seen how these substances have affected everything from polar bears in the Arctic to seabirds along the coast.
A Resource for Industrial Companies
Mivanor aims to collaborate with industry to reduce the release of harmful substances into the environment.
– Many companies face strict environmental regulations while maintaining efficient operations. Our role is to make this process easier by offering customized treatment solutions that are both practical and sustainable, says Robert Tarasz, CEO and Technical Manager at Mivanor.
Through close dialogue and an understanding of industry challenges, we find solutions that not only meet environmental requirements but also contribute to more environmentally friendly operations.
We Conduct Many Small-Scale Tests
In 2024, we saw a significant increase in companies reaching out for insights into their treatment needs. Mivanor continually conducts small-scale tests for various businesses that want a thorough evaluation of their emissions. These tests provide clients with clear recommendations and documentation on how they can optimize or improve water treatment processes.
– We work extensively with testing water from industrial players and guide them based on the results. Mivanor aims to be a valuable resource for industrial companies, concludes Robert.
